Simon Cowell Cracks

Simon Cowell had an emotional reunion with a Britain’s Got Talent contestant whose spinal surgery he paid for. A few years ago, Julia Carlile, now seventeen years old, was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and being told she might never walk normally, let alone dance again. Instead of accepting the diagnosis, Carlile went to the United States for surgery. Cowell, usually known for his cranky persona, footed the $175,000 bill–and the results were incredible. Carlile showed off the results of her surgery on the show, doing backflips across the stage.

“All I want to talk about is one person’s strength and, beyond that, the friendship and support you all have, which we saw the first time we met you,” Cowell told Julia. “To see you able to come back tonight . . . it just means everything.”

Carlile, in turn, is infinitely grateful to Cowell for paying for her surgery.

“I thought that now I would be at home not dancing for the rest of my life,’ Julia enthused. “But here I am back flipping with my best friends. I couldn’t walk two years ago and now I am here. Simon, thank you so much. I don’t think I have ever been so happy as I am right now.”
