Among other things, yoga is supposed to provide tranquility, peace, and relaxation…so why is the thought of it getting so many parents’ upset?
Religion…duh. A school in Georgia had students start doing yoga as a way to relax. But it seemed to have the opposite effect when moms and dads caught on, arguing on social media for “no prayer in schools.” Some saying there are pupils who don’t say the pledge, yet the education system is pushing ideology. In a note sent home to parents, the principle apologized reading, “I am truly sorry that the mindfulness/relaxing practices here at Bullard caused many misconceptions that in turn created a distraction in our community.”
As a result, the school is now altering its calming techniques. The yoga-inspired program will no longer include placing “hands to heart center,” coloring pages with spiritual symbols, or the word “namaste.” “Namaste” means “the light in me see the light in you, but clearly its something these parents don’t want to see it in their schools.
