The report for the impeachment hearing to be released soon

Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California and the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, says the Committee’s impeachment hearing report will be available shortly after Thanksgiving. For the last several weeks, Schiff has been presiding over impeachment inquiry hearings into President Donald Trump, whom the Democrats have accused of committing bribery and extortion in his dealings with Ukraine. Schiff also contends that Trump tried to score political favors from Ukraine to help his 2020 re-election campaign, calling it an “unprecedented campaign of obstruction” by the Trump administration.

“If we allow Trump’s obstruction of Congress to succeed, it will have enduring consequences,” Schiff wrote on Twitter on Monday. “It will mean a future Congress will be unable to conduct meaningful oversight of a president of either party. Republicans who enable Trump’s obstruction now will rue the day they did.”

Democrats, who make up a majority in the House of Representatives, will likely vote to formally impeach President Trump. However, to be removed from office, Trump has to face trial in the Republican-controlled Senate–and experts say the chances of him being removed from office is slim to none. Still, Schiff vowed to press forward.

“The evidence of wrongdoing and misconduct by the President that we have gathered to date is clear and hardly in dispute,” Schiff wrote in an open letter released Monday. “What is left to us now is to decide whether this behavior is compatible with the office of the Presidency and whether the Constitutional process of impeachment is warranted.”
