The NFL announced that they will be fining the Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin will be fined $100,000 for his incident on the sidelines in last Sunday’s game.
In that game against the Ravens, Tomlin had to quickly hop out of the way off the field, because Raven’s Wide Receiver Jacoby Jones was coming down the sideline with the ball on a live play. If Jones hadn’t veered to the right, and Tomlin didn’t jump back when he heard Jones coming, they probably would have collided on the field.
This understandably became a big issue, and Tomlin has been harshly criticized. Some say that Jones could have score on the drive if Tomlin hadn’t gotten in the way. Head coaches are held to a much higher standard than anyone else on a team, and many others say Tomlin should have known better. The Ravens did go on to win the game regardless.
In addition to the large fine, the Steelers may lose some Draft Picks as part of the punishment. But as he expressed in his press conference, Tomlin understands that he messed up, and said he would be fine with whatever the league decided as punishment.
