Truss was only in office for 44 days.
As of this morning, Liz Truss, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has set an unfortunate new record for shortest time in office. After only 44 days in the position, Truss announced this morning that she is stepping down from the Prime Minister role.

“I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability,” Truss said in a statement outside 10 Downing Street. “I recognize, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate to which I was elected by the Conservative Party.”
Truss will remain as the acting Prime Minister until her replacement is chosen. The currently-ruling Conservative Party is planning to begin procedures to elect a new Prime Minister as early as next week.
"What a mess."
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says "we can't have a revolving door of chaos" after Liz Truss announced her resignation as prime minister, and calls for a general election.

Members of other parties have called Truss’ failure in the position proof positive that the UK is in need of a general-election, rather than its current party-backed system. Britain can’t afford the Tories’ chaos,” Keir Starmer, leader of the opposition Labour Party, wrote on Twitter. “My Labour government will provide the stability and leadership needed. For our economy. For growth. For working people. General Election, now.”
“The interests of the Tory party should concern no-one right now. A General Election is now a democratic imperative,” added Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
