Reducing Plastic Waste
Swedish supermarkets will start carrying produce branded by lasers to reduce plastic waste from stickers. This will save 135 miles of plastic per year. A Dutch produce supplier has teamed up with a Swedish supermarket chain to brand produce with lasers instead of plastic stickers.
Laser Foods in Spain has been using the lasers for a few years. Now people are looking to this technology to foster sustainability elsewhere. While these laser machines are incredibly expensive, they are cost-efficient in the long run.
The tech has been tested on avocados and sweet potatoes. The next step is tackling fruits with edible skin. Not only do lasers make everything cooler, they can help make supermarkets greener, too.
