That is right! In a recent interview, the recent VMAs big winner, singer/actor Justin Timberlake expressed his desire to play opposite Ben Affleck’s Batman as a villain and not alongside him as his well-known equally loved sidekick, Robin.
Not Hero Material
In a recent interview for his upcoming crime thriller Runner Runner which he stars alongside with Ben Affleck, J.T. had made it clear that he is not the hero type and it has never crossed his mind to play one in movies. However, if given a chance to play a character in a Batman movie, he wants to be the Riddler, last played by comedian Jim Carrey in the 1995 Batman movie opposite Val Kilmer.
“Not a chance in hell. I ain’t playing Robin. I have no aspiration to ever be a superhero in a movie. Now, a villain! I’ll tell you the villain I want to play more than anything because I grew up loving Batman, funnily enough, is The Riddler,” he stated in his interview on Fresh 102.7’s Jim and Kim Show Tuesday.
“The Riddler is my favourite villain. The Riddler was like a sociopath. He was proper crazy. So if I’m gonna play crazy, I’m wanna play proper crazy,” he added. He even said, quite jokingly, that if makers of the coming Batman-Superman work are going to put in Riddler in the plot, he is ready and willing to oblige to be casted as the villain.
In Ben’s Defense
Justin also expressed his defense and support for Ben Affleck’s casting as the new Batman for the coming Batman-Superman flick set to be shown summer of 2015.
In the Take Back the Night singer’s personal opinion, he likes the idea of his Runner Runner co-star playing the Dark Knight character as he believes Affleck can pull it off. Both had worked together for a considerable time during the filming of their movie, which is set to come out October this year, and Justin had seen how Ben works as a filmmaker and an actor. “I think he’s a brilliant filmmaker. I think he’s an extreme talent so he could surprise a lot of people,” he said.
You Are Not Alone, Justin
Anyway, even though Ben Affleck’s appointment as the Batman last week in the coming Man of Steel sequel has been met with a lot of bashing from fans, Justin Timberlake is not the only celebrity to come to his defense and showed support for his casting.
Just this week, veteran actor Michael Keaton, who also played Batman twice in 1989 and 1992, voiced his support for the actor/director. When asked about his thoughts on the new Batman, he said that Ben is a great choice for the part of the caped crusader.
Runner Runner
Nevertheless, before Ben Affleck gets to show his skills as the beloved black-caped crusader this 2015, he plays the role of a villain in the crime thriller set to come out this October 4, Runner Runner. Here, he plays a corrupt and crazy (he feeds those who mess with him to his crocodiles) ring leader opposite Justin Timberlake’s college-student-turned-FBI-informant.
