John Legend makes PEOPLE magazine cover for Sexiest Man Alive 2019

PEOPLE magazine named John Legend, Grammy Award-winning singer and husband of model Chrissy Teigen, the 2019 Sexiest Man Alive. Legend told PEOPLE he was “excited, but scared” when he received the news.

“I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure,” Legend said. “Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!”

Legend is currently a coach on “The Voice” alongside Blake Shelton, who was named the Sexiest Man Alive in 2017.

Chrissy Teigen, Legend’s wife and mother of his two toddler children, Miles and Luna, was overjoyed at the news, saying it had “fulfilled my dream.” At the same time, she anticipated backlash from online haters.

“I cannot WAIT for people to get mad about John being the sexiest man alive. it’s my new Starbucks holiday cup,” she Tweeted after PEOPLE announced Legend had won the honor of Sexiest Man Alive. However, she told her fans not to send her the angry tweets: “No don’t send it to me please. I like to see these people naturally, in the wild.”

By Wednesday morning, Teigen was still relishing her husband’s new title, tweeting, “the sexiest man alive just made me a ham sandwich.”
