Isreal Bans Muslim Members Of Congress
The nation of Israel has banned two United States Congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, from entering the country. The Congresswomen, who are both Muslim, have been vocal supporters of the movement to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) Israel over its treatment of Palestinians in neighboring lands.
Israel announced the decision shortly after Trump tweeted that the Congresswomen should be banned because they “hate Jews.”
“It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep. Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!” Trump tweeted Thursday.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, another member of a group of Congressional Democrats who call themselves “The Squad,” said she won’t visit Israel until the country lifts the ban and lets Tlaib and Omar in. She called the ban “discriminatory.”
“Netanyahu’s discriminatory decision to ban members of Congress from Israel harms int’l diplomacy. Visiting Israel & Palestine are key experiences towards a path to peace. Sadly, I cannot move forward w scheduling any visits to Israel until all members of Congress are allowed,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
