There is more to life than vodka and tequila, people! There are tons of snacks and products that would be totally unfamiliar to you in the supermarket of another country, including what you may find in the alcohol section.

In Thailand, a popular drink is sato, a Thai rice wine served in a large bowl at room temperature. Some Italians sip amaro, meaning “bitter”, after dinner. Raki, an alcoholic drink well-known in Turkey, is made with anise and is, unsurprisingly, aromatic and full of flavor.

In South Africa you’ll find a popular cream liqueur called amarula. Just south of the border in Mexico you’ll find a variety of drinks made with less recognizable spirits like raicilla, bacanora, or sotol that have unique flavors drawn from the countryside.
