You Are Only As Old As You Feel

An Illinois couple, Ruth and Alan Willman, have been married for 58 years. They tell the story of how they were flipping through their children’s photos when they noticed all of their four children and 11 grandchildren were good athletes. That afternoon the laced up their shoes and made a plan to prove that Grandma and Grandpa can earn medals of their own.

Ruth, who played three sports in high school, saw a sign-up sheet for a local 5K race, and she had a great idea! It was Grandma and Grandpa’s time to shine. For weeks, Ruth and Alan secretly worked out. They did stretching, lifting weights and walking right up until race day, when they called their kids and told them to bring their cameras to the finish line. Ruth and Alan even came in first and second place in their age group!

They were so excited that they wore their medals everywhere they went. It has inspired them to be more active and fit, and to fully enjoy life.
