Thursday Night Recap
Don’t play not to lose. Please. Ever.
Don’t take my word for it. Look at the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night. Playing cautiously with a final possession, trying to run out the clock and force overtime instead of move downfield and score, they tried a cautious running play and lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown with 27 seconds left.
The Denver Broncos, by scoring twice in the span of nine seconds, notched a 31-24 win to move to 2-0. The Chiefs are 1-1.
Want more good football viewing this weekend? Here’s your college and NFL six pack:
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
No. 10 UCLA (2-0) at No. 19 BYU (2-0): The Bruins have an exciting young quarterback in Josh Rosen and the Cougars can match him with Tanner Mangum. BYU loves to blitz.
No. 14 Georgia Tech (2-0) at No. 8 Notre Dame (2-0): The Irish are piling up injuries. The Yellow Jackets, with their triple-option offense, are piling up yards.
No. 18 Auburn (2-0) at No. 13 LSU (2-0): Auburn escaped Jacksonville State last week and moves up in class. Auburn ranks 12th in the SEC in total offense and total defense. That’s not good enough in Baton Rouge.
NFL
Dallas Cowboys (1-0) at Philadelphia Eagles (0-1): The Boys get to see former running back DeMarco Murray, who led the NFL in rushing and then signed with the Eagles. Seeing him is one thing, tackling him another.
Seattle Seahawks (0-1) at Green Bay Packers (1-0): The Packers well remember their late fold in the NFC championship game. Time to get even.
New England Patriots (1-0) at Buffalo Bills (1-0): The Bills have been trash-talking the Patriots all week. It ain’t bragging if you can back it up. The Pats have beaten the Bills 15 straight times. So is it just bragging?
