‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ Is Here To Stay
Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show will be around for at least three more years. The talk show diva announced that she inked a three-year contract to extend her long-running show, meaning it will remain on the air until at least 2022. Ellen said the renewal was a “second chance.”
“I’m excited to announce that I’ll be doing my show for three more years,” DeGeneres told the audience during her show Tuesday. “Mostly because I love doing it so much every day but also because that takes me to the end of my car lease.”
“The Ellen Show” is currently in its 16th season. The popular show has produced several spin-offs, such as “Little Big Shots,” a show devoted to talented kids. The President of Warner Brothers, Mike Darnell, called it a “privilege” to work with Degeneres.
“It has been a true honor and a privilege to work with Ellen and her extraordinary team. The show itself is simply the best in the business, daytime or late night. Not to mention the amazing work she does literally everywhere on TV – from network to cable to streaming to digital – there is no one better,” Darnell said.
The renewal came as a relief to DeGeneres. Less than two weeks ago, Degeneres said she was “torn” about the future, unsure about whether her contract would be renewed. But at least until 2022, the show will go on.
