Biden condemned former President Trump for inciting the events of January 6.
One year ago yesterday, a large group of people stormed the United States Capitol building in an effort to prevent the ratification of electoral votes, under the belief that the election had been “stolen” from former US President Donald Trump. This event has proved to be deeply scarring for the United States, stoking major political divides and prompting a wave of arrests that are still ongoing.

Yesterday, in commemoration of the insurrection’s anniversary, current President Joe Biden delivered a speech condemning the actions and language of those involved that led to the day’s events.
“A former president of the United States of America has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election,” Biden said in a notably more intense fashion than his usual speeches. “He’s done so because he values power over principle, because he sees his own interest as more important than his country’s interest and America’s interest and because his bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy or our Constitution.”
Immediately following his January 6 anniversary speech in Statuary Hall, President Biden told a small group of reporters that "we just have to face the facts of what happened" and "draw a clear picture for the American people." https://t.co/sH0I5RU0KI

“You can’t love your country only when you win. You can’t obey the law only when it’s convenient. You can’t be patriotic when you embrace and enable lies,” Biden added. “Those who stormed this Capitol, and those who instigated and incited, and those who called on them to do so held a dagger at the throat of America.”
