NCAA Basketball Bribery
NCAA scandals seem to be too many to count at this juncture. Whether it was the infamous SMU Football “Pony Excess” scandal, the point-shaving scandal at Tulane in the 80s or perhaps that one time Reggie Bush had to return is Heisman Trophy (just to name a few).
The most recent disgrace involves 10 people associated with Division I NCAA men’s basketball programs, including four coaches, three persons associated with professional managers and advisors and three persons linked to Adidas.
The US attorney for the Southern District of New York, Joon H. Kim, addressed the media saying, “these college coaches took cash bribes from managers and advisors in exchange for directing player and families to the bribers.”
Where the managers and advisors come into play gets even more dicey. According to Kim’s statement, these managers, advisors and those affiliated with the, “major sportswear company (Adidas),” funneled money to families of top high school recruits for players’ commitment to play for certain schools sponsored by Adidas.
The four coaches involved in the latest scandal were named as:
• Chuck Person, associate head coach at Auburn University
• Lamont Evans, assistant at Oklahoma State
• Emanuel Richardson, assistant at Arizona
• Tony Bland, assistant at U.S.C
