Silver Sedan Hits Secret Service Vehicle in Wilmington Incident; President and First Lady Safely Evacuated.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were involved in a security incident on Sunday night in Wilmington, Delaware, as they were departing from the Biden-Harris 2024 headquarters. A silver sedan collided with a parked Secret Service vehicle that was part of the presidential motorcade, prompting a rapid response from the Secret Service.
The incident occurred as Mr. Biden was leaving the campaign headquarters to board his armoured SUV. The silver sedan, displaying a Delaware license plate, struck a Secret Service vehicle securing the route for the president’s departure. The driver of the sedan attempted to continue into a closed-off intersection before being surrounded by Secret Service personnel, who drew their weapons and instructed the driver to raise his hands.
President Biden, visibly surprised by the loud impact, was quickly ushered into his waiting vehicle, along with First Lady Jill Biden. They were promptly driven back to their home. Fortunately, the president’s schedule remained unaffected by the incident.

Secret Service spokesperson Special Agent Steve Kopek stated, “There was no protective interest associated with this event, and the President’s motorcade departed without incident.”
The Bidens had just concluded a meal with members of their re-election team at the Biden-Harris 2024 headquarters. As they emerged around 8:07 pm, the collision occurred at a nearby intersection, capturing the attention of pool reporters. President Biden, responding to reporters’ questions, was standing outside his vehicle when the incident transpired.
Local law enforcement, specifically the Wilmington Police Department, is actively investigating the motor vehicle collision. Spokesperson David Karas noted that investigators are exploring the possibility of impairment as a contributing factor.
Television footage captured the aftermath, showing Secret Service agents escorting President Biden to his car while securing the scene around the damaged silver sedan. The driver’s identity remains undisclosed at this time.
The White House and law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation of this incident. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
