Phil Mickelson isn’t just swinging golf clubs these days — he’s swinging at political rivals too. The 55-year-old golf legend reaffirmed his allegiance to former President Donald Trump over the weekend with a biting remark about President Joe Biden and the nationwide “No Kings” protests on X (formerly Twitter).
Mickelson took aim at the demonstrators as thousands gathered in cities like Washington, D.C., New York, Atlanta, and even London to protest what they see as Trump’s “authoritarian” tendencies. In a sarcastic post mixing political critique with mock praise, he wrote:
“On this special day as we all gather to fight against blanket auto pen pardons and executive orders, lawlessness, and stealing citizen’s resources for illegal non citizens, I believe it has worked!! That is no longer happening so great job everyone.”
The post mocked the protesters’ message while alluding to criticism of President Biden for using an autopen — a mechanical signing device — to issue pardons on his behalf.
Reaction to Mickelson’s comment was swift and divided. Some praised his “brutal honesty,” while others accused him of fueling political tension. It’s not the first time the LIV Golf star has waded into controversy. In recent months, he’s used his social media presence to criticize California Governor Gavin Newsom and even call for the deportation of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar — echoing rhetoric once used by Trump himself.
The “No Kings” movement, which began years ago as a protest against executive overreach, has reemerged amid renewed fears of authoritarianism in Trump’s political circle. While some Republicans dismiss the demonstrations as a distraction from larger issues like the government shutdown, supporters argue they represent a vital stand for democracy.
With an estimated net worth of $400 million and a lucrative career on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour, Mickelson clearly has both the platform and the inclination to keep voicing his opinions.
Love him or loathe him, Phil Mickelson has proven once again that he’s unafraid to mix political fire with his golf fame — and the sports world is definitely paying attention.
