Apple’s most current radical redesign of its operating system, iOS 7, has apps clamoring to fit into the new trend, too.
It seems like Apple’s going for the old adage “in simplicity there is beauty” as iOS 7 puts emphasis on the principles of non-skeuomorphism and features a more flattened look. The apps followed suit though there are still shades and textures visible.
The New Facebook
Facebook’s app had been sporting iOS 7-like features before, the skimmed down top section is one of those, with the advent of the new OS; the social network takes it a little further down.
Noticeably, it had placed the navigation bar adjacent to the screen’s bottom and by tapping here you’ll get the options of going to News Feeds, Requests, Messages, Notifications and ‘More’ – that being the access to the user’s timeline, groups, events as well as other information.
Nevertheless, the most important change that has come to the app is that as you pick your choices between the five tabs, the screen immediately saves where you left off and automatically changes screen to the one you pointed. For example, you get to read a message in the middle of reading a note and when you get back to note reading, you don’t have to scroll to the portion where you left off as the screen directly saves that and takes you there when you switch preferences.
These navigational changes are only applicable in the coming iPhone and while models running iOS 6 are still able to support it, the elements of difference will be present between the two model types.
Twitter’s New Look
On the other hand, Twitter has also tweaked its app for the new OS but like Facebook, older iOS’s 5 and 6 will still be able to support it.
Twitter gave the top toolbar a cut, opting for a simple blue-white display and simply drawn lines of icons. Other than that, the app still looks the same.
An official blog from the website also revealed some of the features from the new OS that are integrated within the social app. Twitter users can make use of the hash tag “#music” on Apple’s iTunes Radio to find out what kind of songs and music are leading trends on Twitter. Additionally, it is also now possible to use Siri to search in the social app. In Safari, individuals can also use shared links to connect with the ones other people have tweeted about.
Evernote in the Change Bandwagon
Among the three apps, it is Evernote who had taken full advantage of the clean, simple cut the new OS is sporting via the 7.0 version of its application.
Evernote has added a number of navigation functions like the ability to jump from the user’s most recent note to the page’s home screen. It also sports a new recorder that makes multitasking – like hearing and typing at the same time – easier.
Other apps like eBay, Kindle, Foursquare and Yahoo are also expected to make changes for the new operating system.
