Disney Pauses Zootopia 2 Celebrations in Hong Kong to Honor Victims of Tragic Apartment Fires

 

In the wake of the devastating apartment fires that swept through the Wang Fuk Court complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong Disneyland has made the heartfelt decision to cancel its planned Zootopia 2 gala premiere and several related park events, prioritizing compassion and community during an extraordinarily difficult time.

With local officials reporting at least 83 lives lost and hundreds more still unaccounted for, the park shared that it would be taking immediate steps to ensure its entertainment schedule reflects the city’s somber mood.

“As Hong Kong faces an unimaginable tragedy, we believe it is important to stand in solidarity with the community,” a Hong Kong Disneyland spokesperson said. “Out of respect for those affected, we have decided to pause our Zootopia 2 celebrations and certain entertainment offerings.”

Event Cancellations Announced

Hong Kong Disneyland confirmed the cancellation of:

• The Zootopia 2 Gala Premiere originally scheduled for November 27, 2025

• A special Magic Access Members screening of the film

• A planned appearance from actress and singer Joey Yung, who voices Judy Hopps in the Cantonese release

• The park’s nightly fireworks spectacular, Momentous: Party in the Night Sky

Guests who visited the park on the day of the fireworks cancellation may reuse their original tickets within six months, offering flexibility as the city regains its footing.

A Community in Mourning

Authorities continue to investigate the catastrophic fires, which tore through a dense residential cluster housing thousands of residents. Fire Services officials report that while active firefighting efforts have nearly concluded, search-and-rescue teams remain on the scene to locate missing individuals and assess the full extent of the damage. Police have confirmed several arrests connected to the incident, citing severe negligence.

Smoke from the towering blaze blanketed parts of Hong Kong well into Wednesday night as emergency crews worked tirelessly to contain hotspots and secure the area.

Looking Ahead with Sensitivity

While Zootopia 2 has already made its North American debut, Disney emphasized that Hong Kong’s special screening will be rescheduled at a later date. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and deeply appreciate the understanding shown by our guests and fans,” the company said. “Our hearts are with everyone impacted.”

The sequel features returning voices from the beloved original, including Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Shakira, alongside new cast members such as Ke Huy Quan. Disney also recently unveiled “Zootopia: Better Zoogether,” a new attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, celebrating the film’s enduring spirit of unity and optimism.
