President Joe Biden’s administration faces criticism online due to its recent Pride Month display at the White House, with many Twitter users alleging a violation of the U.S. Flag Code. In a post on Saturday, Biden showcased a collection of flags hanging from the White House, positioned to face the South Lawn. The display featured a rainbow-colored Pride flag positioned between two American flags.
Twitter users have argued that this arrangement contravenes a section of the U.S. Flag Code stipulating that the American flag should be placed in the center of any display featuring multiple national flags or pennants. President of Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton expressed his discontent by stating, “To advance the revolutionary transgender agenda targeting children, Biden violates a basic tenet of the US Flag Code and disrespects every American service member buried under its colors.”
Fitton specifically referenced U.S. Flag Code §7. (e), which states, “The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.” The display was prominently featured during Biden’s Pride Month celebration at the White House on Saturday, where various performers and speakers representing the LGBTQ+ community were present.
US flag code decrees that the American flag must always be in the dominant, not subservient position.

During the event, which aimed to honor and support LGBT causes, the Pride community was acclaimed as “the bravest and most inspiring people,” serving as an example for the United States and the rest of the world. First Lady Jill Biden addressed the attendees and acknowledged the challenges they face, stating, “Outside the gates of this house are those who want to drag our country backward, and so many battles yet to be braved. But today, we’re not here to be strong. We’re not here to be courageous. Even though for so many of you, just coming to this event is an act of bravery.”
The controversy surrounding the Pride Month display at the White House underscores the ongoing societal debate surrounding the proper use and placement of the American flag. As the discussion continues, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will respond to the accusations of flag code violation while continuing to advocate for the rights and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community.
