Felix has ten medals to her name.
Today, 35-year-old Allyson Felix, women’s track star of Team USA in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, set a seasonal record of 49.46 seconds in the women’s 400m, earning her the bronze medal. Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas took the gold with 48.36 seconds, while Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic clenched the silver with 49.20. While Felix didn’t take first place, though, this newest medal has given her an impressive distinction; with ten medals of varying colors to her name, Felix is now the most decorated female track runner in the entire history of the Olympic games.

Felix was previously tied for this honor with Jamaica’s Merlene Ottey when they both had nine medals, but with this latest bronze, she’s established a new tie with legendary American track athlete Carl Lewis.

Felix has been in the game for most of her adult life, going pro right out of high school and securing a silver medal at her very first Olympic games. After she was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia in 2018, which led to an emergency C-section, she gained a new lease on life, eager to do as much as she can while still in good physical condition. While the 2020 games will be her last run, she has most definitely made good on that desire
