Super Bowl LIV and more
We’ve reached the end of the road. Two teams remain. One will be the NFL’s champion.
The San Francisco 49ers (15-3) take on the Kansas City Chiefs (14-4) Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, in Super Bowl LIV. Fox will be televising the game at 6:30 p.m. ET following a day of hype, hoopla, and hooey. Plenty of big-name entertainment (Shakira, Jennifer Lopez) is planned before and at halftime of this matchup of the ground-oriented 49ers and the pass-oriented Chiefs.
49ers win would be the club’s sixth, tying it for the most in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Chiefs last appeared in (and won) a Super Bowl 50 years ago.
You’ll need some distractions before the Super Bowl kicks off. Sooo … plant your heiner in the recliner and make good use of the other sporting activities available.
College basketball, anyone? We enjoy it when ranked teams play each other, so we’ll tune in to No. 13 Kentucky at No. 17 Auburn, a fun SEC clash, on Saturday at 6 p.m. Thank you, ESPN. No. 19 Illinois visits No. 18 Iowa in a Big Ten beauty Sunday at 1 p.m. on FS1.
Get into the hoop mindset Friday night with a taste of the NBA. The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets get together at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. Over in the NBA’s Eastern Conference, Saturday night’s main event is the Philadelphia 76ers-Boston Celtics tiff at 8 p.m. on ABC.
Tennis anyone? The women’s final in the Australian Open can be seen live on ESPN at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, with a replay on ESPN2 at 8 a.m. The men’s final is live on ESPN at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, with a replay at 8 a.m. on ESPN2.
Your golf appetite can be satiated with the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a staple of Super Bowl weekend. CBS has the final round Sunday from 3-6 p.m.
Enjoy your Super Bowl party. Save me a couple of chicken wings. Hope your team wins.
