Vikings Continue To Dominate
Long regarded as a top NFL defensive coordinator, head coaching jobs never seemed to come as way. Then the Minnesota Vikings hired him and now everyone’s on the “what took teams so long?” bandwagon.
The Vikings are 4-0 after a 24-10 victory on Monday night that certainly cut the New York Giants down to size. No team that has played four games has allowed fewer than the 50 points the Vikings have surrendered. At 60, Zimmer is the NFL’s bright young coach at last.
Remember, this is the team that lost its third-year quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, to a devastating season-ending knee injury and then made the so-called “desperation” trade for Sam Bradford. Bradford has not turned the ball over in his three starts – Sean Hill, the 15-year veteran, started and won the opener.
But the Vikings also lost running back Adrian Peterson to a knee injury and starting left tackle Matt Kalil (hip).
Yet they keep moving forward, riding another strong Zimmer defense.
The Vikings forced the Giants to punt the first five times they had the ball and didn’t allow a touchdown until the fourth quarter. They completely shut down flamboyant receiver Odell Beckham Jr., whose meager three catches for 23 yards all came in the first half.
The Vikings were 7-9 in 2014, Zimmer’s first year. They won the NFC North Division at 11-5 last season and could well be on their way again.
