Legendary musician and cultural icon Bruce Springsteen has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for President and Tim Walz for Vice President in the upcoming election, emphasizing that their policies align with the America he has been consistently writing about for more than five decades.
In a heartfelt video posted on Instagram, Springsteen addressed his millions of fans, declaring his support for Harris and Walz while opposing the candidacies of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. The “Born to Run” singer expressed that his choice is grounded in the belief that Harris and Walz represent a vision of America rooted in freedom, justice, and equality — values that have been central themes in his music career.
“I’ve only got one vote, and it’s one of the most precious possessions that I have,” Springsteen said. “We are coming upon one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone, regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view, or sexual identity. That’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years.”
Springsteen’s songs have long been celebrated for their vivid portrayal of working-class struggles, broken dreams, and the resilience of ordinary Americans. His lyrics have often served as a reflection of the American experience, emphasizing social justice, labor rights, and the promise of equality. This endorsement marks the latest chapter in his outspoken activism, which has spanned decades and included his support for key social issues such as marriage equality and civil rights.
In his statement, Springsteen acknowledged the polarized state of American politics but expressed confidence in Harris and Walz to lead the country forward, away from division and toward unity.
“America is the most powerful nation on Earth not just because of our military strength or economic power, but because of what she stands for,” he continued. “Freedom, social justice, equal opportunity, and the right to love who you want — these are the things that make America great.”
The endorsement also included a sharp rebuke of former President Donald Trump, who Springsteen described as “the most dangerous candidate for President in my lifetime.” He criticized Trump’s disregard for democratic principles, constitutional values, and the rule of law.
Springsteen’s endorsement of Harris and Walz is the continuation of his longstanding engagement in political and social causes. While he was always known for the political undertones in his music, Springsteen’s first formal presidential endorsement came in 2008 when he backed Barack Obama. Since then, he has supported the campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, and played a prominent role at Obama’s 2009 inauguration.
As he wraps up the current leg of his world tour with the E Street Band, Springsteen is preparing for the release of his upcoming documentary, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, which will be available on Hulu starting October 25.
Springsteen’s final words in his endorsement video offered a poignant reminder to voters: “Like you, I’ve only got one vote. And it’s one of the most precious possessions that I have. That’s why, come November 5, I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
