Tis the season to watch football. Now more than ever.
At long last, the College Football Playoffs have arrived – just as the other guests are leaving (we hope). This should be fun. ESPN will show both games. You need only plop your heiner in the recliner and be steadfast in your refusal to move.
Saturday’s CFP lineup: No. 1 LSU (13-0) vs. No. 4 Oklahoma (12-1) in the Peach Bowl (Atlanta) at 4 p.m. ET. The Tigers are led by quarterback Joe Burrow, who won the Heisman Trophy. At 8 p.m., in the Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, Arizona) No. 2 Ohio State (13-0) must take down defending champion and No. 4 seed Clemson (13-0). The winners meet for the national championship on Jan. 13.
Burrow started his college career at Ohio State and transferred to LSU. Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts was originally at Alabama before his move to the Sooners.
Plenty of Sunday’s NFL games have playoff implications. Let’s choose these two.
The Tennessee Titans (8-7) clinch the last AFC wild card with a win at the Houston Texans (10-5), who are AFC South champs for the second consecutive year. CBS gets this one at 4:25 p.m. The Seattle Seahawks (11-4) meet the San Francisco 49ers (12-3) for the NFC West title and a home playoff date at 8:20 p.m. The loser is in the playoffs as a wild card.
Overwhelmed by football? Try a couple of hours of soothing college basketball. Sunday brings us No. 22 West Virginia (10-1) at No. 2 Ohio State (11-1) at noon on FS1.
NBA fans get a nice matchup Sunday night of the Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Lakers. Dallas plays better on the road (11-3 this season). ESPN shows the game at 9:30 p.m.
What a great way to break in that new 80-inch 4k TV.
