Chase Elliott endured a rough stretch over the last month and a half, but he may have turned his fortunes around at the same track where he won his first NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race.

Elliott, who hadn’t finished three of his last six races, ran 1-2 with Martin Truex Jr. for the last 50 laps Sunday in the GoBowling at The Glen race at Watkins Glen, New York. Elliott led the final 28 laps to pick up his second victory of the season. He topped Truex in this race last year as well.

“It’s nice to get out of the slide I was in,” Elliott said.

Denny Hamlin placed third.

Baseball:
Four Astros pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter Saturday night as Houston defeated the Seattle Mariners 9-0. The Mariners were no-hit less than a month ago by a combination of Los Angeles Angels pitchers. The Astros won 3-1 Sunday behind Justin Verlander, who notched his 200th strikeout of the season, to sweep the three-game series.

The Chicago Cubs capped a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 7-2 win. Yu Darvish struck out eight. Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich, who leads the majors in home runs, hit his 37th.

Minnesota’s 3-0 win gave the Twins a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals.

The New York Mets pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-2 for their ninth victory in 10 games.

The New York Yankees scored six runs in the third inning in a 7-4 win that completed a four-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox.

Golf:
J.T. Poston won the Wyndham Championship by one shot over Webb Simpson for his first PGA Tour victory.

Hinako Shibuni, 20, won the Women’s British Open at Woburn. Shibuni, of Japan, had never played outside the country of her birth before or in an LPGA event.

NFL:
The New England Patriots signed 42-year-old quarterback Tom Brady to a two-year contract extension through 2021.

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue ended his holdout without getting a new contract.

Cliff Branch, a standout receiver with the Oakland Raiders, died at 71.

The Washington Redskins’ first published depth chart of training camp lists Colts McCoy as the starting quarterback. They had acquired Case Keenum from the Denver Broncos in a trade and drafted Dwayne Haskins (Ohio State) with the 17th pick of the first round.
