Reviewing All The Sports Over The Weekend

Keith Mitchell became a professional golfer in 2014 after having won exactly one event at the University of Georgia. Other than a victory at a mini-tour event, he had never won as a pro.

And then came Sunday in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, at the Honda Classic. Tied for second going into the final round, Mitchell opened with a pair of bogeys before rallying for a 1-stroke victory at PGA National thanks to a birdie putt on the final hole.

“Everyone gets their first win somewhere, and I wanted this to be mine,” Mitchell said.

NASCAR:
Joey Logano held off Team Penske teammate Brad Keselowski to win the Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas. Keselowski won last week’s race in Atlanta. Kyle Busch finished third.

College basketball:
In Saturday’s games, No. 1 Gonzaga rolled over St. Mary’s 69-55.

No. 2 Virginia crushed Pitt 73-49.

Jack White snapped a streak of 28 consecutive missed three-point attempts as No. 3 Duke defeated Miami 87-57.

No. 7 Tennessee avenged a defeat two weeks ago by beating No. 4 Kentucky 71-52. Other top 10 teams that were upset included No. 6 Michigan State (by Indiana) and No. 8 Houston (by Central Florida).

North Carolina coach Roy Williams (vertigo) left the court at halftime and did not return as the Tar Heels beat Clemson 81-79. Williams said later he was OK.

NBA:
James Harden scored 42 points to propel the Houston Rockets to a 115-104 victory over the struggling Boston Celtics on Sunday.

The road-weary Golden State Warriors defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 120-117 on Saturday night. Kevin Durant scored 34 points, Seth Curry had 28 and Demarcus Cousins added 25.

The lowly Phoenix Suns added to the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff problems by beating them 118-109. The Lakers have lost two in a row and are three games below .500.

Elsewhere:
Roger Federer won his 100th career ATP singles title, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-4, 6-4 to win the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. He’s the second man in the Open Era to win 100 or more titles, joining Jimmy Connors (109).

The rumor mill that is the NFL scouting combine is buzzing with reports that the Arizona Cardinals, who hold the first pick in the draft, are planning to select Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, who won the Heisman Trophy in his lone season as the starter.
