NBA Finals
The Golden State Warriors moved to within one game of winning their first NBA title since 1975 on Sunday night with a 104-91 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Oakland.
The Warriors lead the best-of-seven series three games to two, thanks to Stephen Curry’s 37 points.
“We didn’t turn it over, we were patient,” Warriors guard Klay Thompson said. “And two words: Stephen Curry.”
LeBron James had his second triple-double of this NBA Finals, scoring a game-high 40 points, with 14 rebounds and 11 assists. James is playing in his fifth consecutive NBA Finals, the last four with the Miami Heat (with two championships).
Game 6 is Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET in Cleveland.
In the NHL Final, the Chicago Blackhawks can clinch the Stanley Cup on Monday night when they play the Tampa Bay Lightning in Chicago. The puck drops at 8 p.m. ET. Chicago beat the Lightning 2-1 on Saturday night to move ahead 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.
BASEBALL
Max Scherzer set a Nationals record with 16 strikeouts in a one-hit, 4-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Scherzer gave up a bloop single in the seventh inning. He’s 7-5 in his first season with the Nats and the shutout dropped his earned run average to 1.93. … The streaking Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Boston Red Sox for their 11th consecutive victory. The Red Sox dropped their sixth straight. The Jays are a game behind the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.
ELSEWHERE
Oregon’s men’s and women’s teams won the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene. It marked the men’s team’s second consecutive title and the women’s first since 1985. Both teams had never before won the championships in the same year. … The U.S. Open golf championship begins on Thursday at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
