That’s Racist S1:E9 | All Asians Are Smart?

Just because a stereotype is out there about a certain race, does not mean that it is a negative one. Case and point – the idea that all Asians are incredibly smart.

Don’t lie, you think it just as much as everyone. The old joke about an Asian ‘F’ being an ‘A-‘ in school. There is a stereotype which causes us to believe that all people of Asian descent are automatically smarter than everyone else in the world. While there is no biotechnical fact that says YES Asians are way smarter than everyone else on the planet – there is certainly proof when you look back at their culture that shows they study more.

According to the Asian community, in certain homes there are beings that exist called Tiger Moms. A Tiger Mom is a mother who constantly trains her children to constantly be studying or exercising their brains to some capacity. Of course, when you look at all the moms in the world one may think that they too have a Tiger Mom even if they are not Asian – but the Asians came up with a name for the term (well nicer name than what some may think about their nagging mothers).

The fact of the matter is that more Asian Americans above the age of 25 have college degrees than any other ethnicity in the States AND Asian Americans have a higher average when it comes to the SATs. So make all the jokes you want about Asians being locked inside until all their homework is finished while other kids go outside and play basketball – when it comes to results, the Asian American community is rising to the top and proudly taking ownership of their educational rights.

But like all other stereotypes that we have learned about – they are just that, stereotypes. So next time you are hanging out, don’t automatically assume your Asian friend can calculate how much you need to tip. Take the lazy way out and use a tip calculator like the rest of us.
