The new department store retailer helping brands
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is impacting every industry but small businesses are especially at risk with more having to close with sheltering orders. One retailer, Neighborhoods Goods, wants to help small businesses bounce back from the lack of business.
Neighborhoods Goods announced its new initiative, The Commons, providing businesses impacted by COVID-19 with a free platform to sell and showcase their products. Neighborhoods Goods charge brands a small fee and percentage of sales, but they want to give back in this time of need for small businesses.
Neighborhoods Goods offers an online store for now and will be offering some brands the opportunity to be showcased in their brick-and-mortar locations once they re-open.

Neighborhoods Goods co-founder, Matt Manister, felt the new initiative made sense from a business perspective though they’re not expecting to make money but wants to make industry trading more prevalent. The retailer wanted to provide brands with a less risky way to incorporate physical retail into their business and give brands a more physical version of exposure for customers through pop-up shops.
Neighborhoods Goods want to create a next-level department store that shows more success than traditional department stores, offering brand higher margins and data collection to better help their brand partners.
Neighborhoods Goods operates in New York City along with Plano and Austin in Texas, using a model that offers unique stores according to their location while catering to the store’s local shopping community. Since announcing their new initiative, many brands are reaching out for The Commons initiative as well as brands looking to be a general partner bringing more awareness to the retailer.

With more traditional department store brick-and-mortar locations closing, more brands are looking for a new department store retailer like Neighborhoods Goods. This retailer is changing the retail industry and is providing solutions to longtime issues in retail through e-commerce and brick-and-mortar locations.
