Kimono? More like #KimOhNo
After receiving tons of backlash due to her new shapewear line, Kimono,” Kim Kardashian West has doubled down on the name. Like most celeb-released PR statements, Kim took to her social media to address the accusations of cultural appropriation.
“I am always listening, learning and growing – I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me,” the mom of four captioned a photo of her wearing an item from her line. “When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind.”
She then added, “after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name.” Late last month, the reality star announced the launch of a new line of flesh-colored shapewear called “Kimono.” A name that the Asian community was not happy about. Especially after the Business Insider reported that the Kardashian West was also in the process of trademarking a specific font of the word.
The launch met with an immediate backlash from people of Japanese heritage around the world, with many expressing their disapproval using the Twitter hashtag #KimOhNo.
