Biden Is Confident He Can Take On The Many Democratic Candidates For 2020
An unprecedented number of candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination for President, but former VP Joe Biden says he’s not worried. Biden, who jumped into the race a few weeks ago, predicted that the field will be “winnowed out pretty quickly.”
Biden is the front-runner in most polls, beating runners-up Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. He said he waited a while to declare his candidacy because primary races go on far too long, according to The Hill.
“Biden entered the crowded field late last month but has already surged ahead in the polls,” The Hill reported. A Hill-HarrisX poll released on Monday found him with a 32-point lead in the Democratic primary race.
Biden won 46 percent in the poll compared to 14 percent for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who came in a distant second place. The former vice president said on Wednesday that he waited months to officially join the race because ‘the process is already too long.’
However, at a campaign stop in Los Angeles, Biden vowed he wouldn’t take the low road and start attacking other Democratic candidates. He called that strategy “the last thing the Democratic party needs.”
“This idea that we have a lot of people who aren’t qualified or aren’t electable, come on, give me a break,” he said.
