Keeping The Bahamas in our thoughts and prayers
Hurricane Dorian battered the Bahamas for two straight days, killing at least five people, according to the island nation’s Prime Minister. Thousands of homes and businesses have also been destroyed.
“We are in the midst of a historic tragedy,” Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said. “The devastation is unprecedented and extensive.”
Even the country’s main airport on Grand Bahama Island was six feet underwater, according to Minnis.

However, in the midst of tragedy, there was also heroism. The United States Coast Guard arrived in the Bahamas to transport injured people to the U.S. One Twitter account posted videos of Coast Guard Helicopters arriving in the Bahamas to pick up patients.
“Happening now! Usa Coast Guard Helicopter arriving in Abaco, Bahamas to transport Critical injured ppl to the 🇺🇸 as Abaco Clinic is overwhelming crowded with ppl [sic] who need assistance,” @MVP242 wrote. “and also it’s being used as a shelter to house thousands.”
Chella Phillips, a resident of the Bahamas, used her home to house nearly 100 dogs during the storm.
“97 dogs are inside my house and 79 of them are inside my master bedroom,” Phillips wrote on Facebook. “We have barricaded the refuge and nobody is outside, the music is playing in all directions of the house and the AC is blowing for them.”
The storm has now been downgraded to a Category 3 storm as it heads north towards Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
