‘Ender’s Game’ has created a lot of excitement all over the U.S., where the futuristic film is slated for release on November 1. And with the film’s co-stars Harrison Ford and Sir Ben Kingsley hitting the film premiere on Monday, also making an elaborate talk on young people performing intense training in warfare, film lovers are finding it hard to wait a few more days for the screening of the science fiction action movie.
While Ford, who takes the role of Colonel Graff in the film, says “young people appropriate information so much more quickly than the older people. They’re judged to be the best soldiers for this kind of war,” Kingsley, who portrays the character of Mazer Rackham, feels it’s not war. “I think it’s not war, it’s how we really do have a relationship with the young now that’s different than anything we’ve ever known before, in terms of them being a huge market, in terms of them being hugely and easily influenced.”
Excellent Cast
‘Ender’s Game’, originally a novel by Orson Scott Card published in 1985, is all about an extraordinarily brilliant child (Ender), who gains training as a military expert entrusted with the job of preparing for a fight against future alien invasions. Written and directed by Gavin Hood, the movie has a galaxy of stars, led by Asa Butterfield taking up the challenging role of Andrew “Ender” Wiggin. As an intelligent child sent to undergo training in an advanced military school in space to coordinate for the fight, Butterfield seems to have come up with a sterling performance.
Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin are notable among others, besides Ford and Kingsley, assuming prominent characters in the film, which first hit the theaters on October 24 in Germany, and in the UK the very next day. Interestingly, Jake Lloyd was initially considered to play Ender, while there were also attempts to change the role of Colonel Graff to a female. Similarly, Andre Braugher and Will Smith were the earlier preferences for Mazer Rackham’s role. Viola Davis as Major Gwen Anderson, Stevie Ray Dallimore (John Paul Wiggin), Andrea Powell (Theresa Wiggin), Jimmy Pinchak (Peter Wiggin) and Aramis Knight (Bean) offer terrific support to the film.
Controversial Author
Orson Scott Card had once ran into serious problem after criticizing gay marriage, which was vehemently opposed by Gays & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). As if that was not enough, “Geeks Out” initiated a website campaign seeking a boycott of the movie, which prompted Card to issue a statement that read: “Ender’s Game is set more than a century in the future and has nothing to do with political issues that did not exist when the book was written in 1984”. Ford also felt that there was no issue to be made out of Card’s remarks as the latter himself had admitted that he had lost the battle (following the court’s verdict on gay marriage).
No doubt, “Ender’s Game” brings with it a great deal of thrill and excitement, with several reviews already sounding very positive.
