The NFL’s sixth week kicks off on Thursday night with a matchup designed to showcase two players. One throws the football and the other crushes people who throw the football.
The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans, both 3-2, sit atop the AFC South. The Colts live on the heroics supplied by quarterback Andrew Luck. The Texans thrive on the multiple skills exhibited by defensive end J.J. Watt.
The Colts have won three games in a row after an 0-2 start. With Luck, they’re never out of a game. His ability to take charge and lead comebacks makes the Colts better than their personnel should allow.
Watt sacks quarterbacks, bats passes out of the air, intercepts them and returns them for touchdowns. He’s the single most dynamic defensive player in the game.
GAMES WE’RE WATCHING ON SUNDAY
Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) at Cleveland Browns (2-2): Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer showed Luck-like abilities in leading comebacks in the opener against the Steelers. The Browns, who trailed 27-3, forged a 27-27 tie before losing on a field goal with no time left. The Browns overcame a 25-point deficit on the road last Sunday to beat the Tennessee Titans.
Dallas Cowboys (4-1) at Seattle Seahawks (3-1): The Cowboys have won four in a row, the Seahawks two straight. Dallas is an early surprise; the Seahawks had three touchdowns called back on penalties in their Monday night road win over the Washington Redskins.
New York Giants (3-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-1): The Giants got their offensive problems under control after losing their first two games in horrible fashion but they’re without running back Rashad Jennings (knee). Keep an eye on rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Eagles play at such a fast tempo it is possible they will change from matter to energy and simply disappear in a flash. The Eagles have beaten the Giants in nine of their last 12 meetings.
