The Long Season Golfers Face

The GOLF Live team talks about whether the wrap-around style season gives fans enough time to miss the game.

The 2017–2018 PGA golf season got underway in Napa with Brendan Steele repeating as the Safeway Open champion. The PGA tour schedule includes 50 tournaments in nine countries, including the Ryder Cup. The PGA went straight from the President’s Cup to the new season of the year.

The golfers do not even have a chance to catch their breath – Phil Mickelson had to jump on a plane from California to Malaysia to get to his next game. However, this is where the money is in golf. However, would it be beneficial for the golfers to get a break and to give the chance for fans to miss it a little bit? The sponsors pay for them to keep up this rigorous schedule.

That being said, the most important aspect to the PGA tour is the players. They want as many opportunities as they can to play on the sport’s most profitable circuit. While there are a few top players, there are also many guys who are rookies and want to get every opportunity they can to play.

While a professional golfer is able to take time off if he chooses to do so, his competitors will still be playing, allowing their games to improve while he is resting. The players get to choose from 49 different playing opportunities, in order to create the best schedule for them and the goals they have set for themselves.
