American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken won the Democratic primary for his North Carolina congressional seat the day after his opponent suddenly passed away.
The final vote tally by the North Carolina State Board of Elections shows the American Idol runner-up with 11,678 votes to 11,288 for former state Commerce secretary Keith Crisco, who died Monday.
A day after his main challenger died from a fall, official results showed that, ‘American Idol’ runner-up Aiken won the Democratic nomination for a U.S. congressional seat in North Carolina on Tuesday.
