Camille Cosby Compares Accusers with Emmett Till’s Case
Wife of Bill Cosby, Camille Cosby, compares the verdict of her husband’s trial to the murder of Emmett Till during the civil rights era. She released a statement after her husband was convicted of sexual assault, blaming everyone but her husband.
She is calling for a criminal investigation of the Montgomery County district attorney, while claiming that her husband was targeted for his race. She is also holding the media responsible for the verdict stating, “Bill Cosby was labeled as guilty because the media and accusers said so.”
Camille Cosby states, “Since when are all accusers truthful. History disproves that … Emmett Till’s accuser immediately comes to mind.”
The story of Emmett Till’s murder is one that sparked the civil rights movement, in which a 14 year-old boy is murdered for talking to a white woman in Mississippi. Four days after the encounter Till was kidnapped to be beaten and shot in the head, with his body dumped in the river.
This was monumental in the civil rights movement when Jet magazine published the picture of the young man’s body, showing people nationwide the atrocities of racism in the South.
The white men who committed the murder we’re found innocent in the trial, sparking the civil rights movement.
The wrongful conviction of Darryl Hunt was cited in Cosby’s letter. Convicted of murder in 1984, Hunt was released after a 19 year sentence in 2004, with surfacing DNA evidence proving he didn’t commit the crime.
Camille Cosby went onto blame the victims, claiming they gave false testimony and is damaging her husband’s reputation.
Cosby’s lawyers will be appealing the verdict, showing that the Cosby’s are willing to take extreme measures to convince the public that this verdict will be over-turned.
