Gillium Is Making History
Andrew Gillium just won the Democratic nomination for the governor of Florida on August 28th, this one nominee could possibly run for the 2020 Presidential election and may change the political game for 2020 completely.
Gillium is also making history by being Florida’s first African-American gubernatorial nominee. There is hope for this possible Presidential candidate because Gillium ran his race for governor with the least amount of money raised out of the five democratic candidates in the primary race.
Aside from being the perfect competition for the 2020 election, Gillium also has an extensive background starting with his election to the Tallahassee City Commission when he was 23 and serving ad the Mayor of Tallahassee since 2014. Gillium has already received endorsements from 2016 presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders.
Being the first person in his family to graduate from high school and college, Gillium is focusing on one of his biggest platforms for raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour and establishing a starting salary of $50,000 for teachers. Gillium is also wants to repeal the “stand your ground” law to prevent unnecessary gun violence.
You might be wondering how Gillium will effect the 2020 election? If Gillium is to run in the presidential election in 2020 he will be a strong competitor for the Democratic party. Another factor is that he is the governor of Florida, the largest swing states in the electoral college. Gillium is also likely to garner high voter outcome for African-American voters, compared to the numbers of the 2016 election.
President Donald Trump has endorsed Gillium’s republican rival Ron DeSantis for November’s general election, but so far Gillium’s
Gillium is already making so much history for the state of Florida by becoming the first black governor if he wins, and could possibly be the second black president of the United States.
