ABC celebrates the Emmys in an unprecedented broadcast
ABC managed to pull off broadcasting the 72nd Emmy Awards show with stars celebrating in over 118 countries and practicing social distancing on for the biggest night for television. Late-night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel, presented awards from the Staples Center in Los Angeles with no audience in attendance and participants streaming live from venues of their choice with their loved ones.
This unprecedented event in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic celebrated television shows that have entertained the masses during quarantine and stay-at-home orders. We recap some of the highlights from the biggest night in television and reveal some of the winners.
More streaming platforms are getting the honor of being nominated for an Emmy including the short-series platform Quibi with 10 nominations. The TV series with the most nominations is the HBO hit series “Watchmen” with 26 nominations.
Host Jimmy Kimmel starts the show with his opening monologue and production decided to add footage of the audience from a prior Emmy award show to give the illusion that there is an audience until Jimmy Kimmel sees himself in the audience. After addressing this planned production faux-pas, they turn on the house lights to reveal an empty audience and the brilliant idea they copied from baseball.
Major league baseball games created a fun alternative to having a live audience that offers fans a chance to feature a cardboard cutout version of themselves in the audience and the Emmys thought this was a fun idea so they featured cardboard cutout of the nominees. They show the audience and notice that someone named Jason Bateman might have sneaked into the audience.
Bateman explained he wanted to attend the event after having to be home for the last 6 months but Kimmel says that he has to leave due to safety protocols. Kimmel wanted to have some more fun with his “command audience” and prompted production to give him a standing ovation and explained how the Emmys created an unprecedented production for the awards show over 100 locations worldwide.

Leading actor and writer for the show Daniel Levy won four awards alongside his father and fellow cast member Eugene Levy.
Another nominated cast celebrating together on this special night is the cast of “Little Fires Everywhere” including Reese Witherspoon and Carrie Washington. Zendaya made history as the youngest actress to win the award of Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the age of 24 and she celebrated at home with her close loved ones.
The first win of the night for “Watchmen” was awarded to Regina King for Lead Actress – Limited Series and she encouraged watchers to make a voting plan for November. “Watchmen” won 11 awards of the 26 nominations.
Usually, the Emmys only feature celebrity presenters but this year they decided to thank the COVID-19 frontline workers with the honor of being a special presenter. Despite the entertainment
