Has Southwest Gone Nuts?
It’s actually the complete opposite. Starting on August 1st, Southwest will no longer be serving peanuts as a snack aboard their flights as an effort to prevent anyone with peanut allergies to have an adverse reaction. Your favorite airline snack will be no more.
While it’s great to see companies making changes that are aimed to be more inclusive and benefit the population in the long run, it simultaneously hinders the experience of the loyal customers who, well, like peanuts on their planes. For me, it was a staple snack and why I flew that airline specifically.
Southwest has done a lot of things right. They eliminated the annoyance of assigned seating with their open-seat policy that allows you you to check-in 24 hours prior, and even included two free bags to check, all included in standard air fare. All of these perks will come without peanuts and that makes me just a little upset.
While there’s no word if they will be replacing the snack with something else, it is clear that their efforts to be more health-conscious are making waves across frequent flyers everywhere. Who knew peanuts could stir up such a controversy?
