Navy Forces Take Down Iranian Drone
The United States Navy destroyed an Iranian drone that came dangerously close to a U.S. ship in the Strait of Hormuz. A Navy spokesperson confirmed that crew aboard the U.S.S. Boxer used “jamming” technology, which cause’s a drone’s computer equipment to fail, to take down the drone.
“Marines on board destroyed an Iranian drone that ‘closed within a threatening range’ using counter-drone jamming equipment,” Elizabeth McLaughlin, a Pentagon reporter with ABC News, tweeted.
Last week, Iran captured a British-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, ratcheting up international tensions between Iran and the West. Iran also claims it arrested seventeen Americans caught spying for the CIA, some of whom have already been tried and executed. President Donald Trump strenuously denied the reports, and called Iran’s Islamic regime “a total mess.”
“The Report of Iran capturing CIA spies is totally false. Zero truth. Just more lies and propaganda (like their shot down drone) put out by a Religious Regime that is Badly Failing and has no idea what to do. Their Economy is dead, and will get much worse. Iran is a total mess!” Trump tweeted.
Earlier in July, Iran shot down an unmanned American drone. Trump initially threatened to respond with military force. However, he backed away at the last minute, noting that the drone might have been shot down accidentally.
