Trump goes after Google for influencing 2016 Election
President Trump has never had a great relationship with the media. But now, Big Tech is also on his enemies list. On Monday, Trump tweeted that Google had “manipulated” the 2016 election and attempted to throw victory to his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
“Wow, Report Just Out! Google manipulated from 2.6 million to 16 million votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016 Election! This was put out by a Clinton supporter, not a Trump Supporter! Google should be sued. My victory was even bigger than thought!” Trump tweeted.
Critics said the report Trump was referring to was conducted by San Diego psychologist Robert Epstein, who has a history of opposing Google. They say the study was based on only 95 participants and has little credibility.
Hillary Clinton even spoke out about Trump’s claims, saying the report he referenced has been debunked.
“The debunked study you’re referring to was based on 21 undecided voters. For context that’s about half the number of people associated with your campaign who have been indicted,” Clinton tweeted.
But Epstein, the author of the study, stands by his findings. He told the Senate Judiciary Committee that Google’s bias cost Trump at least two million votes–maybe as many as ten million.
“The range is between 2.6 and 10.4 million votes depending on how aggressively they were in using the techniques that I’ve been studying now for six-and-a-half years,” Epstein said.
