Lebron And D-Wade Reunion
They’re putting the band back together.
By late Wednesday afternoon, once he clears waivers, Dwyane Wade will be a free agent. For about a minute. He will, according to numerous media reports, sign a one-year, $2.3 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and be reunited with LeBron James.
In four years together with the Miami Heat, Wade, James and Chris Bosh formed The Big Three that carried the team to four consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals and two titles. James left for Cleveland in the spring of 2014 and won another title; Wade, who will be 36 during the coming season, wants that opportunity as well.
Wade accepted a buyout of his contract with the rebuilding Chicago Bulls to join the best team in a weak Eastern Conference. If nothing else, the Cavaliers will be deep at guard as Wade joins Derrick Rose, Jose Calderon and Isaiah Thomas. He could wind up being a spot player.
“I would love to have D-Wade a part of this team,” James had said Monday after Wade and the Bulls agreed on his lovely parting gift of some $16 million from the Bulls and his move to Cleveland became practically certain. “He brings another championship pedigree, championship DNA. He brings another player to the team who can get guys involved, can make plays and also has a great basketball mind.”
The Cavaliers, in the finals the last three years – all against the Golden State Warriors – are a good bet to make it four. The Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards will chase them, but that’s about all the Eastern Conference has to offer.
James will be 33 in December and Wade’s birthday follows in January. They’re not kids anymore.
But even if they’re not young, they’re hungry. And Cleveland is the beast of the east.
