Bolton accuses Trump administration of instigating impeachment battle

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton makes bombshell accusations against the Trump administration in his upcoming book, fueling the fire in the impeachment battle. After portions of Bolton’s book were leaked to the public, Democrats renewed their calls for Bolton, as well as other witnesses, to testify against Trump at the impeachment trial in the Senate.

In the book, Bolton says that Trump froze military aid to Ukraine until the country agreed to investigate Trump’s political rival, Joe Biden, and his business dealings in Ukraine. Trump has denied providing military aid with strings attached, saying the aid was not contingent on the Biden investigation.

But Adam Schiff, the impeachment manager in the House of Representatives, told CNN that Bolton’s book “blasts a hole” in Trump’s defense.

“The President blocked our request for Bolton’s testimony,” Schiff tweeted on Sunday night. “Now we see why: Bolton directly contradicts the heart of the President’s defense. If the trial is to be fair, Senators must insist that Mr. Bolton be called as a witness, and provide his notes and other documents.”

On his own Twitter page, Trump insinuated that Bolton was just trying to get publicity for his book, which has not been released yet.

“I NEVER told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens,” Trump tweeted. “In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination. If John Bolton said this, it was only to sell a book.”
