Death of Iranian General results in protests against the U.S.
Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian general, was killed in a surprise U.S. airstrike on Baghdad in the early hours on January 3rd. In a tweet announcing the death, President Trump said Soleimani was a strong supporter of terror who should have been killed years ago.
“General Qassem Soleimani has killed or badly wounded thousands of Americans over an extended period of time, and was plotting to kill many more…but got caught! He was directly and indirectly responsible for the death of millions of people, including the recent large number of PROTESTERS killed in Iran itself,” Trump tweeted. “While Iran will never be able to properly admit it, Soleimani was both hated and feared within the country. They are not nearly as saddened as the leaders will let the outside world believe. He should have been taken out many years ago!”
In a tweet, Trump added that the general was “hated and feared” by the Iranian people.
“While Iran will never be able to properly admit it, Soleimani was both hated and feared within the country,” he continued. “They are not nearly as saddened as the leaders will let the outside world believe. He should have been taken out many years ago!”
Earlier this week, dozens of Iran-backed protestors attacked the American embassy in Baghdad. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the airstrike that killed Soleimani was conducted to prevent Soleimani’s troops from carrying out more attacks on American interests in Iraq.
