The Excitement

The UK is buzzing with excitement about the royal christening photos of the third in line to the throne. Taken on Oct. 23, 2013, everyone is thrilled to see a historical event. It’s been 120 years since we’ve seen a photo taken of a queen and her three direct heirs, since 1894 to be exact! Three kings and a queen is cause for a celebration. The royal christening was an extremely private event where only family and godparents were in attendance. The photos are all we get to see of this memorable family event. A lucky Jason Bell, photographer to the stars, captured this joyous occasion with his camera.

The Photos

The first photo is of a happy Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge with his parents at Clarence House in London, the official residence of Prince Charles. They are sitting in the Morning Room, designed by John Nash, which has a great history. It was formerly the Duke of Edinburgh’s sitting room. Even the couch they are seated on is old and rich in history, being from 1773. The room is filled with artwork portraying the royal family members of old and now. Busts, painting, and photographs show princesses and princes. Prince George is sporting a gorgeous christening gown that’s a replica of one used in 1841 by Queen Victoria for her daughter. It was made by Angela Kelly, who also made dresses for Queen Elizabeth II. George is seated on Kate’s lap with his arms raised in the air. His parents look truly happy with those toothy grins.

The other photos are family photos. Perhaps the most important, the one with the queen and her heirs. She sits looking regal as ever with her son and grandson standing behind her. William is holding George of course, with his luxurious satin and lace gown hanging down to the queen’s knees. The next photo depicts the queen looking at George with his parents. Behind them stands her husband Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Harry. The final picture portrays all the royals thus far, as well as Kate’s family. Her parents Michael and Carole along with George’s uncle and aunt, (brother and sister of Kate) James and Pippa stand behind Kate and William. The whole family photo is sure to be a favorite.

Afterwards

After the photos, the Duke and Duchess engaged in more British tradition. 23 guests enjoyed a spiced fruitcake. The top portion of the couple’s eight-tiered wedding cake by Fiona Cairns was served. It was frozen and saved to be served for the christening. Even part-time nanny Jessie Webb was invited to join the festivities. She was William’s nanny. Not even a half hour after the statement, Kensington Palace had already released their statement regarding the joyous occasion. The proud mother was happy to tell everyone how well George behaved that day too. He has a reputation for having a pair of famous lungs that could have easily cause problems that day.
