Fortune’s list of Most Powerful Women is put together by its editors annually of some of the world’s most skillful and most influential women in business. The list was started up in 1998 to grab readers’ attention and make them aware of women’s significant contributions and advancements in the corporate world.
As Fortune’s website explains, the list is determined based on four criteria: “the size and importance of the woman’s business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman’s career (résumé and runway ahead), and social and cultural influence.” The world’s fiercest, business-minded females are taking up powerful positions in professional sectors, even those long-ruled by men.
It’s also worth mentioning that the fabulous team of editors is a group of amazing women who spent much of the summer compiling and analyzing research and assembling this issue. Even the photo director, Mia Diehl, ensured that all of 2018’s most powerful women were photographed by women.
Some of the women on Fortune’s list oversee billions of dollars in revenue, are the CEOs of huge financial, technological, or government agencies, and have founded their own billion-dollar businesses. It can be argued that it is difficult for women to compete in such male dominated fields, and it can also be argued that those days are coming to an end!
