For millions of viewers of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow it’s terrific news to receive: the popular series has been renewed for a second season. In the process, it also happens to be the first new show to get such an order. Sleepy Hollow has obtained orders for 13 additional episodes this fall. Although the entertaining drama hasn’t received the standard back 9 order, getting a second season renewal itself is seen as a major thumbs up to this adventure series. No doubt, it’s quite unusual for a new fall show to get an early order for a second season. And when you take into account that the widely appreciated drama doesn’t have a full-season order for this season, it’s definitely no mean achievement.

Resounding Success

No other series has witnessed such a resounding success like Sleepy Hollow this fall. Based on the tale of the Headless Horseman, the fantasy drama has drawn the attention of viewers everywhere in a big way, drawing a record attendance in a very short period. That the show has drawn applause from audience of all age groups is what has made it an outstanding series in recent times.

Both in terms of premiere numbers and consistency, Sleepy Hollow has enjoyed enormous success. Commencing with a 3.4 18-49 rating, it continues to remain ahead of the three ratings threshold when it comes to live viewing. Sent out by K/O Paper Products and 20th Century Fox TV, Sleepy Hollow has registered a 5.0 adults 18-49 rating including three days of DVR playback, thereby crowning it as Fox’s best bet since 24’s debut way back in November 2001.

Not many shows can boast such a huge attendance for their premiere like Sleepy Hollow, which has an incredible audience of over 22 million that includes three-day DVR playback, VOD and streaming. With Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Len Wiseman and Mark Goffman as executive producers, and Phillip Iscove as supervising producer, Sleepy Hollow has turned out to be an out of the blue success for the proud group.

According to Fox entertainment chief, Kevin Reilly, Sleepy Hollow has proved to be a risk worth taking. “The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking – it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast,” he said, adding “I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is on store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two.”

Although the initial success of Sleepy Hollow must have tempted Fox to think in terms of extending its freshman season to the standard 22 episodes, it seems the producers are going to implement their original plan. Designed to suit Fox’s cable-style runs, Sleepy Hollow has already established itself as a mega series that is viewed by millions of people as an absolute entertainer. With an order for the second season in its kitty, the fantasy drama can be expected to go on record as one of the most popular series to be made in recent years.
