This week, the 2023 Golden Globes recognized the finest individuals in the world of entertainment, including both film and television. In addition to the regular awards, every Golden Globes show gives out a special honorary award to those who have made major lifetime achievements to the industry, the Cecil B. DeMille Award. This year’s award went to veteran actor Eddie Murphy.

“I want to say thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for bestowing this prestigious honor on me,” Murphy, who has won several Golden Globes for his work previously, said in his thank-you speech. “I’ve been in show business for 46 years, and I’ve been in the movie business for 41 years, so this has been a long time in the making, and it is greatly appreciated.”

Murphy thanked his wife for supporting him throughout his career, as well as the many producers and crew members he’s worked with to bring his classic roles to life. As he closed out his speech, he offered three pieces of advice for anyone looking to excel in the entertainment world.

“There is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve prosperity and peace of mind,” Murphy said. “Pay your taxes, mind your business, and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f—— mouth.”
